MOTOR DAWGS!

HIT’EM WITH A WRENCH!

Family and Friends,

The train is starting to move faster as we are gearing up for redeployment back home.  The soldiers have been extremely busy with laying out tool sets for the 25 percent inventories that are taking place on the 1st of October.  This should be the last set of inventories that we do before signing over our stay back equipment to the new units arriving in November.  We have started to sort out equipment that is not returning with us and clean out the items that we no longer need for missions and find homes for it all.  The soldiers are starting to clean out their rooms in preparation to return home.  I think it makes them feel good that the end is near, and that they are one step closer to going home.  We had two promotions this month with PFC Reese getting promoted to Specialist and PV2 Dixon getting promoted to Private First Class.  We all are really proud of them!  The soldiers are doing a great job with all the tasks that they have from fixing trucks, guard duty, charge of quarters duty, to filling sandbags at the pods for force protection.  No matter what task they are given they get it done and do a great job.  The soldiers are doing a great job with supporting other units that do not have support for their missions.  They are eager to jump in and lend a helping hand to another soldier in need.  SGT Montanez, continues to great things down in the I-Zone with the Georgian Army.  He is currently training the new rotation of soldiers that just arrived.  He has developed a lot of teaching skills to ensure that they understand our way of maintenance to hundreds of Georgians who speak little to no English.  We are all very proud of him and his accomplishments.  We finally finished with the 1st Armored Divisions staff assisted visits and inspections.  They were really grateful for us taking the time to come and help them with their maintenance operations.  Our soldiers will receive recognition for their efforts some time in the next couple of weeks.  We all are looking forward to reuniting with our families in the next 90 days or so.  Thanks for all your support back home.

SERVICE & LIFT

The Service and Lift Section has had another very productive month while deployed to Iraq in support of OIF III.  The entire shop is making a difference each and every day and continues to have an impact on daily operations throughout the DSB and Camp Taji.  As we usher in the Autumn  season and begin to see a little light flickering in the distance I would like to take a moment to honor a fellow Hard Charger.  Our thoughts and prayers are with SPC Santos and his family in this trying time. I was fortunate to have known SPC Santos and played in several softball tournaments with him on the Hard Charger team.  I will cherish those memories and I hope that he overcomes the challenges that face him during his recovery and his future the same way he dealt with the challenges of the past.  With drive, determination and dedication.  May peace be with you my friend.

We have completed the circuit with R&R leave for those soldiers who desired to go.  SGT Stadick and SPC Crumpton were the last two and they should be back by the end of September.  PFC Gilles just returned from R&R leave and SPC Freeman just returned from his well-deserved I-Zone pass.  He has been filling the void on the recovery side of the house while our primary operators were out of the net.  SGT Harris has been out on the perimeter providing force protection for the Castle Gate area of Camp Taji. We look forward to her return to the shop at the end of the month.

The welders and machinists led by SSG Stull have been very busy.  Nothing like the sound of machinery and soldiers operating in a shop. SGT Beals fabricated and modified an engine stand for the Bradley transmission rebuild shop so that they can perform checks on rebuilt transmissions.  Our big focus this past month has been trying to enhance the force protection posture and survivability of soldiers out on the roads.  We installed another Barnett Kit (additional ballistic protection) on another M1114.  We also fabricated and installed five infrared modifications (otherwise known as Rhinos) on the front of the Personal Security Detachment (PSD) M1114s in one day.  We are currently in the process of doing the same for the BTB’s PSD vehicles.  My hats off to SSG Stull, SGT Beals, SGT Moore, SPC Bethea, SPC Clark, SPC Freeman and SPC Gallardo for their dedication and drive.  We have also continued to work on a MEDEVAC modification so that the local medical support facility is able to evacuate patients by ground to a higher level care facility should the need arise.  This project is also a total team effort.

SPC Clark and SPC Gallardo were promoted to their present rank on the first of September. SPC Freeman and SPC Bethea have appeared before the promotion board for SGT since being out here and both did a great job in successfully passing the board.  Congratulations to all.

Boy, you can tell Autumn is here, it only gets up to a little over 100 degrees now and sometimes it drops down into the 70s at night. Brrrrrr.  Let me finish by saying that we look forward to each and every day because that is another day closer to us returning to our loved ones.  We will continue to provide critical Allied Trades and Lift support to anyone in the MND-B area.  I truly appreciate all the hard work and dedication from everyone in the shop.  I have no doubt in my mind that we will keep up the great work and keep on charging hard.
